Weleda's products contain natural, valuable ingredients - natural plant oils. Together with natural essential oils, plant extracts, and other high-quality ingredients, these oils contribute to the overall effectiveness of Weleda's holistic compositions.
What does our skin need - restoration and antioxidant support or primarily hydration? By uniquely combining oils and extracts, Weleda addresses specific skin needs. The oils it uses in cosmetics are derived from apricot kernels, argan fruit, pomegranate seeds, wheat kernels, sea buckthorn, or evening primrose seeds. It also prepares effective extracts from plants such as mallow or the moisture-storing prickly pear cactus.
How is calendula tincture made?
Weleda produces many types of tinctures for use in various products. For example, calendula tincture is an extract from the entire calendula plant or certain parts of it, depending on the product it will be used in. The extraction methods developed by Weleda preserve the plant's natural properties and characteristics as much as possible. Alcohol, water, saline solution, and oil are used as extractants. To make the tincture, freshly crushed calendula plants are mixed with the extractant - each step of the process is carried out carefully in a controlled environment. This ensures that the calendula transfers its substances and properties to the tincture with the highest possible quality.
Why are plant-based oils beneficial for the skin?
Plants absorb sunlight and warmth and transform it into matter such as sugars. Through a series of steps, these sugars are converted into substances that form lipids and are stored in the seed. Oil extracted from plant seeds and grains is rich in saturated and unsaturated fatty acids and nourishing vitamins. Pure plant oils are similar in composition to the lipids in the human skin barrier, which is why they are absorbed into the skin and metabolized by the body. These oils easily penetrate the upper layers of the skin, strengthening their natural functions, increasing lipid content, and preventing moisture loss. In contrast to plant-based oils, mineral oils have a occlusive effect (meaning they remain on the skin's surface) and cannot be metabolized by the body.
